1968 Mercury Cougar "R" Code 428 CJ GT

It was ordered by Sandy Elliot Lincoln Mercury in Chatham, Ontario.

A Framed Deluxe Marti Report comes with the car and is pictured below with all the details.

I also have the two original warranty cards that came with it when new.

A 5 year NO EXPENSE SPARED Rotisserie restoration and 3 pages worth of VERY hard to find NOS parts went into this awesome piece!

It was raced by John Elliot and tuned by Barry Poole, the famous "Border Bandits" In 1971 they were named Co-drivers of the Year in the NHRA Super Stock class. As the photo shows below, Mr. Poole saw the car just after it's rebirth last year at the ALL-Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pa. and made it his Celebrity Pick!

The photo of the car at the Drag strip is from the St. Thomas Dragway in Ontario, August, 1968!!

No nut, bolt, or clip was untouched during it's restoration. Over 100 photos below tell the story.

All mechanicals rebuilt to perfect standards, even the original cast iron tailshaft and "R" Servo!

The other Cougar we are selling right now also was the pattern for all stamps, paper tags, and details to the finest degree. That car has just 18k miles and sports all those original items.

To say that it was hard to find NOS parts for this car is the ultimate understatement!

You can attend every auto auction or swap meet for the next 10 years and not find a more unique Mercury product! It is seriously for sale well below it's potential.
